Now that things have settled down, i can declare fish bucket.
Rules exist for two reasons. To tell you what you can't do, and to not tell you what you can.

There's a time and place for a good many rules. Killing people, not really a good idea. Same with setting random things on fire in theaters. Still, there are a good many self imposed rules that one needs to reflect why the heck they're following them. For instance "i can't do that because it hasn't been done yet."
It may well be that someone else is going to eventually do something you may need. It may be that you can hold off until they do whatever it is. It may also be that the folks you're waiting on have their own issues and frankly wouldn't mind a bit of help. Ultimately, you gotta find out, and you gotta do it. Damn whatever the rules are.
Sure, there can be consequences of living under the cutting edge. You may screw up and build the "wrong" solution. Deal with it. Know the parts and make sure you can swap them out with "the right solution" later. Granted, you could very well BE the right solution and in that case, you won't have to change anything. Likewise, you could become THE solution in which case, you get to be the right one. It's life. There's risk. Smart people learn how to manage it and use it to their advantage.
One has to not only know the rule, but think about why it exists and how you can use it to your groups advantage.
