Maybe it's me, but there seems to be a lot of Dumb going around.
First, i read about how folks are finally realizing that serving static pages are better than serving pages that require a lot of individual lookups (Yay! Pendulums!), so they're constructing complicated tools that take odd syntax and render pages with it. Opposed, i guess, to just writing it in damn HTML, that any 7 year old could figure out.
Second, i heard that there's some folks who are copying and editing said files though an intermediary site like github.com. For reasons that utterly escape me. Rather than just creating the files locally and using rsync + ssh to atomically sync the changes. (Don't get me wrong, git is a fantastic change management system, and i'd encourage anyone to use it. Heck, if you were really clever, you'd set up a git repository on the remote server, and have the server update from that rather than rely on a third party that may be down or may go away.)
Next up, there's an RFC that proclaims that all the various protocols and servers that have been around for the past two decades or so should stop using "X-" to mark non-standard, ignorable, potentially conflicting headers, and instead use "x.". Or "pers." Or "vend." Or a bunch of others because using "X-" pollutes the namespace and makes things hard. Having written servers, protocols, and clients for a lot of the web, i'm not exactly sure who it makes things hard for (hint: regex can be your best-est friend), but all y'all should stop that right away. (Partly because all y'all either need to update your damn servers and clients or stop paying attention to random stuff with "X-" in them in the first place, but that's beside the point.)

Look, there are times my brain drops trou, grabs a cortex full of Jergens and builds something stupid. (Granted, most of these no longer work, but hey mental masturbation isn't about building to last.) Still, when it comes time to build things that pay bills or stuff i expect other folks to use, i'm going to go for the stuff that's got the least moving parts, and are as battle tested as i can find.
Because that's how you become a professional rather than some guy jerkin' around.
