:: Offshite

At work, a few folks are planning on doing an offsite. For those of you not quite familiar with the concept of an "off-site" it's a day where the you and your co-workers take a break from the office chores. Usually, this is a "fun" day, that helps build teams and improve morale.

i've never really understood them.

Yeah, i appreciate the opportunities to spend a day not working and get paid for it, but i don't really understand the value of it. It's not like we can turn around and use this again while we're working.

i'm not trying to be dense or anything, i just don't understand how..

Look, remember when we did that offsite a few months ago?

The one where we were cooking? Yeah.

And remember when we were making the soup?

Of course i remember that.

    Well it's like that.

i remember it because i was the one doing all the cooking while the rest of you threw bits of carrot at each other.

    Well, i suppose…

And then, to no one else's surprise we couldn't heat up 15 gallons of chicken broth to 200° in 10 minutes because Dave forgot to start the range.

    Yes but…

So we wound up serving some sort of bizarre crunchy viccisous that gave most of the department the runs the next few days.

    Really? i don't remember that.

Do you remember arriving at the winery?

    Yes.

Do you remember the open tasting bar?

    Ah, yes, wonderful vintages.

Do you remember leaving?

Funny you should mention that… no. So you really don't like the taste of wine?

Not unless i've used it to deglaze the pan, no. But i think i see what you mean by the example. Should i start crying and curling into a fetal position now or should i wait 'til i get back to my cube?

i've skipped these in the past. When i do i'm always amazed by the stuff i can get done.

Ah well, i suppose that's not very Team-centric of me. i should be out there willing to blow time and be just as unproductive as the rest of them.

    What do you think, sirs?
