i have to admit, it's a little like being promised candy and not getting it.
At work, my engineering group has a policy that from 2-? on Fridays, we can work on other stuff. It can be anything. Sorting our mail, surfing the net, catching up with others, it's time we get on our own. i've used it to work on various hacks that i want to do.
i've done a few, and are actually pretty happy with two of them (No, sadly, i can't share them… yet.), but it's an amazingly effective "treat" for a week. It's like engineering dessert. Yeah, that probably sounds weird that after doing a week of coding, i look forward to doing about four hours of… well… coding, but i do. Back off.
Only the past two weeks, i've not been able to do it.
The first week was due to Thanksgiving and being down with family. This week it was due to other pressing matters related to a project we're hoping to roll out soon.
Fortunately, i managed to sneak a few minutes to add a quick feature to one of the disposable hacks i'll probably show off at the next hackday. Yes, that one i can show you because it's taking advantage of the Public APIs to do something that a couple of folks said we couldn't do. And yes, it's was a little bit of fun for me.
Granted, it was more like getting to lick the wrapper than actually eat the candy, but at least it was something.
Hmm… wonder if anyone will notice if i put it back…
