i can't remember where i saw it, but someone was mentioning that amidst all the hype and fluster of the iPhone, people weren't really picking up on the iTV Apple TV.

Well, duh. i mean i've had a computer in my living room for a year and i can tell you that i'm not spending my nights watching youtube. Mind you, i'm in the geekier set. i mean, not so geeky that i'd consider buying an Xbox for $100, sticking a $30 chip in it and running my own media center. i mean all i did was custom build a micro PC running a full version of XP and networked into my home wireless net.

Wait, i'm not really helping that whole "i'm not that geeky" argument here, am i?

Suffice to say that i've already got a Tivo, dvd player, and radio and they all work just as well as the computer, often with less button pressing and mouse clicking.

Oh sure, with stuff like NetFlix's movie download, having a PC in the living room might be a better idea, but hey, that only means having something that a lot of geeks don't, you know, friends who want to come over and watch a movie on your TV. Otherwise, plunking down with a Laptop is probably just as good.

Of course, everyone here in The Valley believes that You Need a PC in your Living Room. That's why Apple, Microsoft and damn near everyone else is convinced that You Need a PC in you Living Room and are fighting to be that PC. The fact that you can bring a laptop into the living room and wire it up to the TV pretty easily isn't something they're really considering either.

i guess having that PC in the living room is a little like having a fridge in the bedroom. Sure, it sounds good, and who could resist the allure of a cold snack while lying in bed, but seriously, how often will you really use it?
