Today, i passed a rather interesting milestone in my life.
i've been working at Yahoo! for eight years.
That's longer than i've worked for any other company. Mind you, i don't really change places of employment all that often. Previously, the company i worked for the longest was at around 7 years. i don't like jumping ship for a number of reasons, but ultimately, it's always a question of "Am i happy here?" It's one of the questions i ask myself every morning.
i'm happiest when i'm either learning something new or feel like i'm making a difference in being there.
Even after eight years, i'm still learning and feeling like i'm making a difference. Sure, i've had plenty of bad days. i've faced huge frustrations, i've even got a laundry list of things i feel we're doing dead wrong and need to change, but that's been true everywhere i work, and the one thing i've definitely learned is that i'm the only one that can make what i want happen.
It's funny. i'm not interested in leaving. i'm still having fun. i'm doing stuff that's pretty darn cool. Of all the companies around here that i could probably get a job at tomorrow, none of them are as interesting to me as the one i'm working for right now (and yes, that includes the folks to the West by Northwest of here.)
Sorry if this wasn't really funny or cranky. Just being a bit reflective.
