i try to be nice to people. When i'm dealing with a checkout clerk and they ring up a price that's different than what i expect, i don't presume it's their fault, but try to work with them as best i can, (even if it means having them ring up other folks in line while i wait for the manager). Likewise, i generally don't unload on folks that call me in the middle of dinner, (although i've been known to play with and confuse them, i don't do it in a mean way). That's because these people are not really in a position to take the full onslaught of my wrath and do something to resolve the issue.
i save a great deal of my pointed indignation for the people who ultimately CAN do something about it.
That's why i find the idea of an insert you toss into the Netflix return envelope astoundingly silly. Nevermind that the folks ripping open the CD envelope probably won't even notice the flyer or it'll just be one more piece of paper they have to discard, it's not really "sending a message" anymore than me shouting into my DVD player or yelling at the guy that collects the carts at Wal*Mart about how i disapprove of their policies on international labor.
If you're going to be a pain in the ass, be an effective pain in the ass. Send netflix a list of the movies you would have paid to watch, provided you could have actually watched them. Send them a list of non-subscribing friends you didn't inform about what a fantastic service this was. Show them that there's money they're walking away from and they'll change.
It'll be FAR more effective than adding to their recycling bill.
Long comment here. Short comment: The dude from defectivebydesign is an idiot. His little envelope stuffing campaign will only end up killing trees and nothing else. If you want to make a difference, call Netflix's 24/7 customer support line and ask nicely, "How come I can't use the Watch Now service on my Mac? If I can't, could I get a partial refund of my monthly fee since you are not making it available to Mac users?" The number is 1-888-638-3549.
Aren't you playing to rent the downloadable content like you rent the DVDs from them? Why wouldn't there be DRM on something like that?

Once I got so irritated with their ad inserts that I tossed a couple coaster CDs in their return mailer with "nonadventures.com" written on them.
