It's funny, but i can't really remember the last time i sat and read a book.
i read, mind you. i'm nearly constantly reading something, but i don't lump technical journals and reference books into that category since they're not exactly the sort of thing one does on a lazy afternoon. i just can't remember the last time i grabbed a novel and started reading. i suppose that's partly due to the fact that i've not really found anything that's really engaging as a read.
Growing up, i read pretty voraciously. i'd read some book or series nearly constantly. i'd watch a trailer for a movie and then go pick up the novelization. i'd bask in the classics for no particular reason or pick up the Middle English version of Beowulf for masochistic tendencies. i don't do that much anymore.
i suppose i could say i've supplanted reading novels with reading stuff online, but that's not really true either. Most of that is technical or reference too. Not a lot of curling up with a good LCD going on, really. That's probably one of the reasons that i'm having a hard time getting excited about the Kindle. i can't see spending that much for a device to replace something i hardly ever do now. (It'd be like someone who dislikes listening to music getting an iPod.)
i keep wondering if it's just me or if other folks are reading for fun less too.
The only books I will pickup without recommendation are Murakami Haruki's novels, but those only come out every two to four years now. That said I do read a lot of translated Japanese manga so no escape from the printed word for me yet.
I think we're just trained to be more ADD now, or at least to multitask on a level that isn't conducive to a good book. I'm always urprised by how much I do enjoy reading (usually because I've picked up a Bujold or a Gibson)
I'm like Hetta — I read a lot for fun, but it's within my specific group of whitelisted authors. I don't want to spend what little spare time I have reading something I won't enjoy, which probably restricts my horizons to a degree.

I read, but currently only pick up 3 authors: Bujold, Kay, Pratchett. Every so often I give one or the other of the latest Hugo or Nebula finalists a try, but they're so not there.
