Can i turn off the new features for Wordpress 2.6?

Yes, yes, the new features are probably wonderful and full of delight, but after looking them over, i'm not exactly jumping on the opportunity to upgrade.

Post Revisions
Ok, yeah. And? Seriously. Look i understand how Wikipedia is the bestest thing evar and how (like all apps aspire to have email and be their own language) everything must now be Wiki-fied. But i know damn well what revisions i have in place. i very seldom revise old posts, and when i do i make liberal use of the <strike> tag. i'm willing to believe that the vast majority of bloggers are like me, doing free style jazz like posts spawned from the depths of their damaged psyche. Keeping revisions just means bigger data demands since those revisions HAVE to live somewhere, and more than likely, they're going to be records in a database. Better hope that your data plan can handle your bad spelling habits.

Press This v.3
Yeah, that one always kinda cracked me up. Yes, pretty much from the get-go, Wordpress has featured micro-blogging, just like tumblr and any number of other like sites. Setting up a dedicated, different package for it has always been kind of a waste, but since handling categories has been "a work in progress" for much of Wordpress' life (Sometimes you can exclude them by appending a "-" in front, other times, you have to exclude them as a parameter. They do it to keep you on your toes), a lot of folks kinda skipped the "Press This" feature and used something saner.

Yeah, not really going to use that feature either.

Gears Integration
Again… ok. so i suppose that this might be useful 1% of the time if i'm ever live-blogging some keynote where the network connection is iffy, but by and large, that's never really the case. i'm blogging directly to my… well… blog. You know, so that the post is published.

Theme Previews
Because FSM knows i change my themes oh-so-often.

Seriously, most of the "improvements" strike me a lot like the "Links" feature that got duct-taped onto Wordpress years ago, and generally breaks unless you use it precisely the way that Wordpress intended. i'd love to just get the bug fixes and switch off everything else. (Granted, Turbo/Gears needs me to activate it as does the theme integration, and i can't find an option to turn off revision tracking but i see the other features as new bug vectors.)

Dammit, i liked wordpress because it was simple. It's headed at warp speed away from that.

i ought to just fork a copy of the source, strip out the crap and use that.

Oh man JR do I gotta update this? Are there SuperImportant Security Things® or is it just a clump of stupid networking widgets I'm going to turn off anyway?

I've been thinking of dumping Wordpress because of its feature creep. I need something simple enough to have a POST tag, or a TIME STAMP tag, or a really simple PHP function list that I can slap into my own page. Wordpress really tries to do too much.
