For his birthday, i bought my dad an eBook reader. This was something my wife was secretly drooling over so rather than be burned at the stake should i buy her a Christmas gift this year, we celebrated Romanian Constitution Day (much to her surprise) yesterday.
Thing is, i'm really starting to realize that there's a rise of "luddite tech" sort of things.
Look at the things that are popular. We've got ebook readers, semi-crippled laptops, and cellphones that proudly declare they're missing features. The most popular things aren't the ones that are the most advanced or capable, but the ones that do less.
Honestly, i would have figured that by now things would have been different. Folks would be walking around with cheap, high powered, touch screen tablets that all interconnect. We would have one, near, omni-functional device that would be highly customizable, but in fact, we almost seem to be headed the other way.
Sadly, looks like the Data Pad from Star Trek is a failure before we even made it out of the 20th century.
And i'm going to blame y'all.
